House prices drop for first time in a year, says Halifax

Mortgage lender says prices fell in July and predicts slowing annual growth in wake of interest rate rise

House prices fell in July for the first time in over a year, according to the latest figures from the Halifax.

The mortgage lender said the average price of a home fell by 0.1%, the first drop since prices fell between June and July in 2021 in the wake of the removal of the temporary stamp duty cut.
