House prices in the UK rose 7.8% in the year to June, less than the rate of general inflation.

House price growth slowed in the year to June to the lowest annual figure for 11 months, official statistics show.

Land registry data published today showed prices increased 7.8% in 12 months to June, down from the 12.8% reported for the year to May.

The drop in growth means inflation has now overtaken house price growth. In the year to June, the consumer price index (CPI) measure of inflation increased 10.1%, while the consumer price index housing (CPIH) measure rose 8.8%.
