Peter Baker warns message about importance of considering fire safety in initial planning ‘has still not fully landed‘ in industry
The head of the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) has said he hopes to oversee a “world leading” safety regime as the new body prepares to take on the first of a series of significant new duties next month
Peter Baker, the chief inspector of buildings at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which is setting up the BSR, yesterday said the new registrations scheme for higher-risk buildings launching next month will be a “milestone” for building safety.
From 6 April, owners will have to register their existing higher-risk residential buildings -buildings over 18 metres- with the BSR. They will be given six months to register the approximately 12,500 higher-risk buildings in England. It will be a criminal offence not to do so.
